Ultimate
WAVE SAILING Boost
In 2010 I am running a one-week 'winner to wavesailor' coaching clinic in Brandon Bay, Ireland. If
you wish to enhance your wave-riding, jumping and all-round sailing skills
at this legendary venue then please book early as there are only up to
a maximum of 10 - 11 places.
The action
During the week I will be assisting you in developing all aspects of
wavesailing. For the more experienced I will get you more airtime,
maybe some rotating if you are that way inclined. Your riding will
be improved with better wave selection and improved riding positions.
Should we have some flatter days then we will concentrate on the fundamental
transitions, and some work on your freestyle moves. If you are new
to waves then I will demonstrate efficient and safe ways of launching
and landing. I will get you sailing back and forth on the rolly stuff
with more confidence and speed, working towards airtime and catching
your first waves. This place goes off and we will be sailing at some
awesome beaches with ripping conditions. The beach for the day will
be chosen according to the group's standard and the most suitable
conditions on offer. I will be coaching through use of simulators,
on-water coaching and video coaching. Please feel free to give me feedback
on how it is going for YOU at any time so I can give you the best opportunity
to develop.
Your ability
You should be able to sail a short board competently, and have done plenty
of coastal sailing. Your gybes will be fairly consistent and you will
have sailed in strong winds with total waterstart confidence.
Accommodation - venue changed!
We will be staying at a B and B in Castlegregory or houses in the Maharees for 2010. The Jamie Knox lodge will NOT be available during the clinic. Options will be confirmed, priced and updated by Jan. 2010
Windsurfing kit
Bring everything and any spares that you have. I suggest getting all
your kit sorted before you come and making sure all fins fit, sails
have the right head and all the other fun things that your kit may
surprise you with. If it's light we go out, if it's windy
the same. You will need a summer and winter steamer wetsuits and boots/shoes,
unless you are hardcore. Please bring at least a 95 litre board for the floating out and riding in days - and of course some small kit. Sails from 5.8 to your smallest, it can really blow here. I will have plenty of RRD 'pure joy' boards and 'everything is easy with' Ezzy sails for you to check out and try : )
The craic
The social here is brill with friendly warm bars, Irish music and the
odd Guinness slipping down. There are quite a few bars we will be visiting
with the world famous Spillanes being top of the list. We will eat
out most nights and arrange to meet after the day's action where
we can exchange stories and generally have a good laugh at all of our
daily stunts.
The travel
It's a ferry service from Wales to Ireland, with a traveling time of up to 2 - 3 hours from Cork to Brandon Bay. Jeremy @ JamieKnox's will advise on the best ferry route and times that are most suitable for you. When in Ireland its a beautiful drive across to Brandon Bay. Once the
clinic posse is known it is possible to put people together for sharing
a ride and therefore save on ferry and petrol. You will need a vehicle and ALL YOUR TOYS for the clinic.
Other activities
There is some beautiful walking to be had here, with breathtaking views.
Bring some boots and quality waterproofs, which can get put to very
good use. The scenic drives are fantastic with Ireland’s legendary
Connor Pass in easy reach. Surfing and stand up paddle boarding can be world class here. So you
can grab a board here or bring your own and I can offer some top tips.
It can be a beautiful start or end to a day and teaches you a great
deal about waves. If you have a mountain bike bring it with you. Golf,
horse riding and fishing are also available.
