Moulay goes off and 2011 selling out : ) |
| |
A warm and Windy hello to you all. Finally Mr. Southwest has turned up and blessed our shores in the UK and lifted the depression so I really hope many of you got out in the last month and enjoyed the action on offer. I have just visited Moulay, Morocco for the first time and my PSC / BAJA wave clinic beckons next, and after that the eagerly anticipated NWF on Sept 4 / 5 where I am looking forward to seeing many of you. Racing registration and party tickets are selling out so come on get involved please.
Bookings are going like hot cakes for 2011 right now: Marsa Alam - March 16 - 23 / 23 - 30 are both LTD. Moulay, Morocco - May 2 - 9 - VERY LIMITED. Moulay - May 9 - 16 will open when the first week sells out. Prasonisi, Rhodes dates are up, prices and booking in September through Sportif Travel PSC / Baja in August - VERY LIMITED
What can I say? Moulay was amazing, off the hook, full power etc etc, superlatives do not do it justice!! I missed out in April due to the damn ash cloud and a little wedding getting that was quite important. So I was stoked to get an opportunity to head back out there with a top top crew and hit it hard. I had 6 days on mainly 4.0 and TWIN 82 and some am sessions on 4.7. My crew were loving it and going large on jumps, rides and loops with faster rotations and delayed forwards being completed for the first time.
The place is sooo mellow with the Moroccans very friendly and the rebuilt Lawamas proving a fine base to sleep, eat and do video feedback from and also kickback and watch the action whilst resting tired muscles. Bouj and Fettah were great hosts, and amazing sailors, and the centre there goes from strength to strength, it was great to see Bouj rigging up sails and dishing out advice and of course totally rip on the water. Check out some more pics on Oceansource.nets facebook page, thanks to Ed / Oceansource.net for the pics, and you can see the feedback from the crew on the Boards forum, and enjoy the video on MPORA too.
I can't wait to go back. Their is a peak downwind for really clean riding, a middle peak for both ride and jumps and upwind the waves are softer and smaller so a great place to work on jumping. The wind blows from around 11 am right through to dark and even on small swells it is good fun. The waves won't kill you and reef is more like soft rock. If you don't go you won't know. Come join me next year but be quick as yes it will sell out very fast!
My sailing took a step up there, as well as in Baja, and seeing as I want to help you all learn more moves I cover aerials in this September's 'Wannabe' article in Boards mag. Right now I am so happy to be getting my push loops dialled which has been a journey that will also be covered in future technique articles. Thanks to all who have supported and coached me in this along the way : )
You can also catch some more technique movies of mine on my now updated TECHNIQUE page, courtesy of my site sponsors BIG SALTY WEATHER, who I am sure you are using as a resource for all this wind around. link to my tech movies.
Much as you all know that i am a bit shy on the promotional front I would like to highlight the fact that my apartment in CASA DO JOHN in Jeri, Brazil is open for bookings. We have a few spaces in our spacious 2 bed apartment with pool, so you can this amazingly windy, warm and beautiful location. You can see pics on the gallery page Brazil section and you can also check out a video of it too. Please email me for further details and to discuss prices and availability. I can also advise on the apartments available for sale at both CDJ and Serrote Breezes. Its windy there now and will be every day till mid January!
I have been lucky to get my NEW Rrd Wave Culy Quad 92 shipped to me early in anticipation of my Baja trip and managed to get out on it on Friday. It was medium wind, onshore and no real waves - so not legendary at all but a great opportunity to sail it in real world conditions and assess its all - round appeal. It planed earlier and went upwind better than my Twin 90 and was very comfy to sail with good speed in the gusty wind and the usual silky smooth RRD Feel. The Quad gripped well through the gybe and was very secure in fast exits. It popped well and rotated with ease and now I'm itching to unleash it on some sweet waves and will come back to you with more then. The quad, I feel, has the looseness of a twin yet with more grip like a single fin, in both gybing and riding, and so I'm looking forward to driving harder into turns and jumps, these multi fin boards are also very controllable when overpowered. Check out the vid on BOARDS.
I now bid you far well and hasta luego and look forward to seeing many of you on clinics and at NWF.
What action will you be taking to move forward in your life today and hence forward?
Thanks to all those bookers for this year and the early bookers for next year and I look forward to coaching you,
Focus, Believe and Enjoy,
Jem

Moulay beckons, latest news - Moulay report soon |
| |
WOW – what a difference a bit of wind makes!! From getting a windy demo weekend, with results in slalom and freestyle up at Hunstanton, to 4 days of wind in a row down here on Sarf coast. I hope people got out, wherever they are in the world, and seized the day or hour even. In store this month are pics from my months coaching in Rhodes and some banter on that, up to date news, 2011 clinic info and what I am up to next. Firstly, it was great pride that I’d like to show introduce a profile on me that I did for my old Uni/Poly up in Newcastle. I really enjoyed working on it and will do more with them in the future as it was great to reflect on how where I am now starting back when I was 17 when I got into coaching, 3 years after learning to windsurf. Just before I went to Rhodes I was at the RRD conference in Tarifa and we were checking out the pimp gear that is coming out this year. As RRD now bring out versions rather than years we will only be bringing out the NEW Wave boards this year with the Cult and Hard Core Quads available soon and the Single fin versions in September. The FSW, Fireride, Twin fin, Twin Tip etc etc all stays the same until further notice, we only change graphics when we change shapes so both the customer and the shop gets more value from our products and we get more time on R & D to bring you improved toys. I am gagging for my Quads before I go to PSC/Baja in August!! They can viewed at the NWF on Hayling on Sept 4/5 where both RRD / Ezzy toys and I will be attending, sign up now to race or you will miss out on this fantastic event and experience. OK, ok less sales chat now, well just a bit more, your last chance for some Jemetic Modification in 2010 is Mauritius on Sept. 22nd 2011 clinics are already receiving huge interest: Marsa Alam on March 16th and March 23rd already has the first week half full PSC/Baja in August 2011 is half full too – yep over a year in advance. So if you snooze you lose for next year, not only am I benefiting from a very high return rate but also lots of new demand from all around the world and especially in Scandinavia. I love getting out to Rhodes in June as I look forward to the hard, yet rewarding, work that a month there gives me. We also get plenty of wind, warm water, great food and both the hotel and centre are so hospitable that it is like my 2nd home. This month saw a very diverse crew from all round the world from Hong Kong to Czech republic, Sweden to Greece and of course plenty of Brits too. Every year it seems that the clients are working harder and improving faster as they learn to gybe, get faster gybes, learn 360s or duck gybes and of course nail some loops. I have to take my hats off to the loop crew this year as in one particular video session I have never ever seen so many loop attempts, and ensuing carnage, it was amazing. Whilst learning new moves you can bite off one bit at a time and the first 20 trigger pulls are like most situations in windsurfing, you have to become comfortable with being uncomfortable and as they say if you don’t buy a ticket well then you will not win the lottery. Check out a great NEW movie on Rhodes put together by olympic RSX hopeful, Connor Bainbridge from last years clips.
My time in Prasonisi really highlighted that the people who really grasp the basic fundamentals like a fast stance, tacking, early planing, popping and clew first sailing are the ones who learn the fastest! Knowledge is power so if you own my DVD’s then please watch them and know them well so you can visualise and move forward, all you need to know from me is there on Beginner to Winner and Winner to Wavesailor but you really have to watch them and not use them as drinks mats : ) During the coaching I video people, give them on water tips and then we agree targets to be set for certain moves and I help my clients to help themselves so they learn how to learn and be the master of their windsurfing destiny – sounds cheesy but this really is the recipe for improving. A special thanks has to go to Tony ‘Tattsy’ Ford for assisting in co coaching on the loop clinic and please if you are interested in booking our pimp pad in 100% windy Jeri, Brazil (check the gallery TOO) then get in touch with him as he can discuss rentals and also apartment sales in Casa Do John (our pad is 201) and Serrote Breezes, both where my clinic posse will be staying. Here are the links to some more of the pics from the clinics, week one and week 2. BIG SALTY ALERT For the UK people I would like to remind you just how darn useful Big Salty weather site is and you can also upload pics there and use the forum which I will be perusing to offer technique tips and such like and they are now selling some nice clothing and that amazing SPF 35 / 44 sun tan cream from the legends PRO SPORT, if it keeps my slap head in check then it will keep you from getting burnt. Apply today and reapply tomorrow, non-sweaty and very waterproof! NEWS A big well done to Simon Bassett and his SUP crew for their channel crossing. It was great to see a result in the slalom and freestyle up in Hunstanton, supported by Quayside Windsurfing. Congrats to Mike George, one of my long term clients, for winning the amateurs slalom and to Oscar C, new RRD ambassador at 14, for winning the freestyle comp. ON THE ROAD AGAIN After a great days coaching on thursday up in the Midlands with Boardwise at Blythfield reservoir I am now off to Moulay for a weeks clinic and the forecast is off the hook – boy is everyone excited. If you want in for 2011 May Moulay Magnificence then, you guessed it, book early as the 2010 May clinic sold out in one week. “The only thing in life we can control is our mind, …. Ultimately, the only person who can change the way you think is yourself,” Greg Chappell, Cricket Coach. “The pain of discipline is nothing like the pain of disappointment,” Anon. What will all of you do to make the change? Most people sail and learn more in one week with me then they would do in a whole year by themselves. Thanks to all past and future bookers of my clinics without you I would not be where I am now with my clinics : ) Respect, Jem |

Wedding, honeymoon and Moulay clinic 'lite' |
| |
Good morning, Well I hope that some of you got out on Sunday for a sail, as it was damn nice in the sun and sweet force 4 – 5. As promised I am going to give you a peak at our wedding photos and give you the lowdown on how the day went. Firstly, of course, a bit of promotion as you know I’m not shy on this …. Your last chances for a boost this year are: - My Re-scheduled clinic light trip to Moulay, Morocco where I am offering daily part time coaching at this amazing wave venue, which has side shore wind and sweet waves. Getting out, jumping, looping, catching waves and riding will all be covered, this place is very consistent! I will be there from July 19 – 26 and bookings are through Oceansource.net
- Marvellous Mauritius is now getting steady bookings for this September. The clinic was bought forward to this date for more wind and waves and both the venue and hotel are world class, and you can now upgrade to the 5* Les Pavilions hotel should you so wish. I will be covering stance, better gybes, tacks, feasible freestyle, jumps, loops and wave riding. The venue has all water states from flat water to small waves to side off perfection and the hotel is great for non sailing partners and families.
I apologise for the pic heavy newsletter but I just got very excited about sharing them with you so please have a look through and enjoy them. People say getting married is the best day of your life and boy are they right. It was an amazing day with so many great people there to share it with. Sophie and I have to thank our awesome parents, and extended family for supporting us in putting it on. It is quite a surreal experience, after the carnage of the stag weekend comes the realisation that you are about to fully commit and as we know this is what life is all about : ) My crew joined me the night before for a few drinks and we kicked off the next day with some lunges, squat thrusts and a jog, like you do. The morning was a bit of a blur and everyone was asking me, ‘are you nervous?’ which I was not but just excited beyond belief. The ceremony was great and Sophie looked absolutely stunning, and the registrar seemed to enjoy called me Jeromany Hall. The wedding party then adjourned for plenty of fizzy and the obligatory photos before sitting down for dinner and then the dreaded speeches. Colin, my father in law went easy on me but Tony, my best man did not! Well, actually I will have to say that with all the pics and the great content it was, as many people have now told me, one of the best best mans speeches – ever. The first dance flew by and Sophie forgot our entire rehearsed synchronised freestyle dance routine. Now by this time everyone was pretty ‘refreshed’ so the dancing was starting to get pretty messy and there was a bit of rough and tumble. I can’t even count how many times I fell over. The DJs, Wedding smashers, were amazing and everyone danced the night away, enjoyed bundling me and even tested out the carpet for some dodgy break dancing. The next day it was a yummy lunch at my parents in laws and then off to the Maldives for out honeymoon. Thanks to everyone for their kind donations to this and getting us there and to Sportif for organising it. We had a great honeymoon and no boardsports were partaken or work performed – the island was beautiful, food amazing and people friendly and we just loved the snorkelling.
A massive thank you to Barney from FND for the pics and to the Wedding Smashers for their fantastic DJing.
After all those good times it was back to work which took me to the RRD conference in Tarifa where I got to check out what’s coming out soon, discuss our R and D plans and get out on some proposed shapes. The main intro for this year is out new wave boards in both Quad and Single fin and in the guise of the all-round master, the Cult and our riding master the Hard Core. I am very excited about the Quads as they give me the looseness of a twin with the grip of a single fin and with a bit more early planing and upwind ability thrown in for good measure. The Single fins are also updated and available for those of you who prefer them and want a grippier ride, even earlier planing or for stronger wind usage and occasional riding. Out in late July and I’ll send out some more pics then. With this year selling out so quick I have been asked to release my 2011 dates earlier and I will be highlighting these in July including a new venue for March, which will be available for booking in July through Sportif. Thanks everyone for their lovely emails, cards and messages with best wishes for our wedding and huge thanks for your support both in the past, present and future. I am off to Prasonisi, Rhodes tomorrow for 4 weeks of clinics and then off to Hunstanton for the Quayside demo weekend and slalom / freestyle comps on July 10 & 11. Passion, love and commitment, Jem

Cape of Joy: Back in Jan/Feb I had my usual sojourn to Cape Town and it was amazing. Thanks to martin Sellars for being the co-pilot and wave brother as we covered alot of miles and sailed everywhere. I got my first sail at Elands Bay and also climbed up Lions head which scared the s**t out of me but probably inspired me to re-learn how to push loop.
It was great to hook up with Skyeboy and do some testing for RRD and of course hang out with Don Roberto Ricci himself. We were joined on many of the beaches by El Toro Clive Boden and Kyle McGinn who both put some video footage together on MPORA
You can read the travel article by Sophie and I on Cape Town, called 2 Oceans - 2 sides, in the fantastic Boards mag March Edition and you can also now view my old wannabe wavesailor technique articles too : )
EL TUR: After a busy month or so in the office it was off to El Tur for my first clinic of the year and it was very international in feel. Thanks to my Austrian, 2 Dutch, 4 Irish and 6 British peops for making it such a fab week and for working so hard.
We had about 4 days of planing and 2 of light wind training which was perfect. First gybes were made, stances got faster but sorry boys the girls improved the most : )
Thanks to Phil, Dan and Danielle for being excellent hosts and for getting me some of the great pics you can see right here.
Gareth also has some more pictures here.
FLICKS Their are so many good movies on the old interweb now but for a bit of reflection check out John Skye's movies on Mpora and of course the loop movie that he and I made, and for added inspiration El Toro's loop story is pure class. If you are not gagging to loop after these then you never will be!!
EVENTS: Not only do we have National windsurf week on May 1 - 9 but now we have World Windsurf week, so get involved and spread the love and joy of windsurfing far and wide please.
May also sees the start of the Uk wave comps and a new dawn has come with the BWA now in charge their has never been a better time to do your first amateur event. Its fun and you will learn loads and will it ever focus you!
We have the National Windsurf festival in September and I am proud to announce that I will be there so come down and have a chat and race a round a few buoys. Also throughout the year the BSA are having lots of slalom events and with a big focus on fun races and masterblasters, alongside this their are now lots of local slalom clubs so get involved as going fast never went out of fashion.
Well, I am now off to my stag weekend so wish me luck and if you see me in Wales somewhere naked and with no eyebrows do more than say 'bend your back leg.' My best man said 'no body gets out of here alive,' sounds ominous so I bid you Au revoir, hopefully. Sophie and I are getting married in May and we are very excited.
Before the wedding I will be in Mouthwatering Moulay for my first wave clinic there, cue wigs and Moroccan tea for our big night out.
Ta Ta for now and a huge thanks to all of you for booking up past and present, this has been my fastest and biggest sales year ever for clinics and that is alot down to your support and word of mouth promotion. Keep this coming and it is great to see so many new customers from all around the globe.
Passion, love and commitment,
Jem X
Ps check out Boardseeker for a new batch of technique video clips in the coming months

All White in Brazil |
| |
Merry Xmas and a very happy new year to you all. This is just a quick newsletter to keep you posted and say thanks to those of you who have supported me over the last year and to those of who have booked up for next year.
CLINIC NEWS El Tur and Moulay are both sold out with long waiting lists. Prasonisi, Rhodes in June is selling very quick now Punta San Carlos, Baja, Mexico 'down the line' pure wave joy clinic is almost fully booked
Check out the great footage from BOARDS MAGS NEW MPORA Video site of Graham Ezzy in Punta San, Carlos, Baja, Mexico (PSC/BAJA).
UK ACTION wow - what a month November was, 3.5 to 4.7 weather on so many days and even windy at weekends - YAY! I was loving it, my Panthers and RRD wave twins were eating up the conditions and it was great to catch up with quite a few of you around the breaks.
BRAZIL BECKONS Late November sees me jet off to Jeri, Brazil to get some pics and perform my now regular clinic there. This year Sophie joined me and for my sins, I took Dave White (Boards mag editor and all-round legend) along as my photographer, and it wa he spent alot of time ripping into both me and the clients and took some superb pics and also reflected on both Jeri itself and the clinic so please check out the links. I will cover more on Brazil in the next newsletter. The sail in the pics is the NEW Ezzy Panther 2 and it has all the usual Ezzy Panther attributes of stability, tuning flexibility, wind range and strength and is now also lighter and smoother thanks to the new white tri - laminate in the middle of the sail.
SANTA Lots of people have been buying both WINNER TO WAVESAILOR and BEGINNER TO WINNER so a huge thanks for doing this either as a pressie to themselves, or as an investment in their progress, or as a present to others : )
FEEDBACK AND QUOTES A very enthusiastic person has started a thread on my coaching on the Boards forum so if you fancy posting on there then that can be your pressie to me and perhaps take the time to reflect on some of your favorite quotes of mine on Facebook
Whilst it is cold you can still run, swim, bike and hit the gym and the fitter you are the quicker you will progress and the more you will enjoy your sessions. Those of you who have booked clinics please do be as fit as humanly possible for them and get your hands tough (surgical spirit application works). Here is to a perfect 10 and I look forward to seeing and coaching you.
Spread the love and feel the joy, Jem

Wow – what a difference some wind makes! We have been blessed with stacks of the stuff and almost too much at times and it has even been blowing at weekends. And boy did it blow last Saturday, I was on 3.5 at Pagham (south coast of UK) and it was full power but sailable and then by lunchtime is was so windy that I could not sail or even carry my kit, so I had to de-rig at the waters edge to get it back to the van. The arvo session proved that mother nature was the winner as 3.5 was just unsailable at Hayling, but all good clean fun and you have to be in awe of the power of that wind. Thanks to Whitey for the 3.5 pic and to Jon Nicholson for the West Witts pics in my November newsletter. The rest of this week has seen a lot of sweet sessions and it has been great to bump into some clients around the breaks and pass on some tips in my inimitable way : )
So what has been happening on the ‘Performance Boost’ tour? Well, I had my autumn sojourn to Ireland, which after last years 13/14 wavesailing days had a lot to beat. This year the wind was not as prevalent but we had some great surf and the crew really got into their surfing and SUPing and could really see how they can progress in the future and use it in their wavesailing, you have to live life with passion and if surf is what you have, well then you better be both believing in and enjoying it. We had a couple of days and the crew worked hard and were all on fine form despite only a couple of days of wind.
This week I arranged to meet with top Ezzy ripper James ‘Big Salty’ Cox who has a competition on his amazing weather forecasting site at the mo. If you want waves then just click on the wave button for the beaches you like and it tells you when the wind and waves are best for wavesailing – awesome and very accurate. Over to Big Salty;
“Over the next 2 months, Big Salty Weather are having a Bonanza and giving away a new prize every fortnight to their user base. The prizes range from harness lines to harnesses. What do you have to do to win? Simply be a signed up member with an active Watchlist of your favourite beaches. It’s that easy. Make sure that you are cited by a new member for referring them and you stand a chance to win the super main prize! Visit www.bigsalty.co.uk for more information and get your windsurfing weather needs answered.”
October also saw John Skye, long time friend and now RRD team mate, win the British Wavesailing association Overall Wave title, after great results in Ireland, Rhossy, Tiree and lastly, Cornwall – well done Skyeboy.
Next up it was time to head off to Mauritius to Jemetically Modify a range of clients who travelled from the Uk, Sweden, Japan and the Czech republic. El Nino has been funking up the weather all year (but just might give us a windy euro winter) and it also tried its best to defeat us in the beautiful location that is Le Morne, so we only got about 4 – 5 full power sailing days. Now I am always saying ‘less is more’ and ‘carpe diem’ and many other profound bald ramblings but this clinic typified just what you can do when you are hungry to sail and improve, whilst also being very focused. I was blown away by just how much the majority of the crew improved so I would like to say a huge well done to them.
I would like to introduce a small case study here to highlight this. Stefan is from Sweden and is tall, fit, motivated, not taking any coaching previously and, shock / horror does not own BEGINNER TO WINNER. He wanted to plane out of his gybes and just improve allround. First up his stance was arms 2 metres apart and with lines too short so we lengthened the lines and got his hands together, then he started looking like a windsurfer and not an orangutang. Then we could fix his gybes by focusing majorly on the preparation and making the target to plane clew first out of the gybe NOT to gybe. He gradually went from a wide arm bender into a straighter armed ripper who looks where he goes and has added some style and consistency to his gybes. His homework is to do 500 tacks and get out more in light winds and practice the gybe foot change and clew first sailing. Ordinary things done consistently well will produce extraordinary results!
Now most of you know that everything is 'easy with an Ezzy' and so if you would like to check out a test on the Ezzy Panther 4.7 then take a lot at the fine test that Boardseeker have performed.
Movie news – we now have the WINNER TO WAVESAILOR trailer up on my site, which is courtesy of USPmedia.TV and yes if you haven’t bought it yet, you are missing out and I have a few limited edition copies on sale. So September saw my return to Rhodes, where I was accompanied very ably by John Skye on the loop clinic and I was really enjoying the new FSW and Fireride from RRD. It was great to have a crew of people who were well up for it. Though on the 3rd day when I called them in and said 'right then 20 loop attempts and done both ways and only sail a maximum distance of 200 metres out to sea,' the look on their faces was priceless! If you don't go you won't know. Their was some excellent progress and they all left being the masters of their looping destiny and knowing what they must do to improve. Thanks to the loopers on week 1 and the rippers on week 2 who all worked very hard on both weeks and were a joy to work with, and for getting me just a little bit drunk on the Saturday night Lindos mission : )
From my coaching I have seen that if you want to improve and do not set targets then you will not achieve, one client, Xavier, said I will not talk to you until I have done 200 tacks today, a tall order but it got him tacking. My main man Carl set his target of going for 100 loops on a clinic, he got to the last day and had 60 left, but this got him looping!! We have south easterly wind, port tack on the sarf coast, which will create some jumping mayhem as alot of sailors are not able to jump both ways, but could they be doing pops / jumps on the way in when it is starboard tack? and, do they sail the same distance in both directions? windsurfing is a 2 way sport so visualise and practice both ways, if YOU WANT to be competent.
Next for me it is off to West Country Watersports for a shop demo on Fri. Oct 23 en route to the student windsurfing demo at Roadford reservoir on 24/25 Oct. and AK8 at Bude Holiday park.
As you look to improve your sailing your target may well be to move from "WINNER TO WAVESAILOR" and if you have the fundamentals right then your wavesailing will rip - plane early, sail fast, fly upwind, look where you go, get low and keep the boom away - it's all there. All these skills and a high level of competency can be gained on a flat water clinic and with the options of bump n jump or waves nearby, the venues of El Tur, Rhodes and Mauritius give you an amazing arena to do this, so lets get you ripping.
Just a heads up for you that for BIG SALTY WEATHER each beach on the watchlist can have TEXT alerts set and based on custom wind and wave conditions or the Big Salty wind rating so you know when it is going off and can ahem, excuse yourself from .... and hit the water.
I was in Ireland last week for my clinic in Brandon Bay which gave us a bit of wind and plenty of surf and as we all know if you want to be a wavesailor you need to be waterperson, by SUPing and surfing, and if you can't tack then you are not a wavesailor. All this and more is in my my ground breaking technique DVD WINNER TO WAVESAILOR and I still have a few ltd editions on sale.
Next up I take in Mauritius and then Jeri, Brazil in December, these are all sold out, as is Moulay, Morocco through Oceansource next April 2010. So please start to consider where you are coming next year, if you WANT TO IMPROVE and have an awesome holiday.
Thanks to USPmedia.TV for continuing to sponsor my streaming and watch out for all sorts of funky phone movies / downloads from them soon.
Their has never been a better time to get a top mag delivered to your door by subscribing to the excellent BOARDS MAGAZINE, which has a deal running now. Your support is very very much appreciated.
Now not only was the wavesailing and mtbing world class in Punta San Carlos, Baja, Mexico but the surfing and SUping was also amazing so I have attached a few pics. Checkout baldie moi, Aussie Martin, Dave 'streamline products' Dominy and Kevin 'SoloSports owner' Trejo enjoying the waves at the point. We also have Skye boy willy skipping, Emma popping away and my stunt double, Nick, 360ing in Rhodes. But who is that b....r above the surf pics bending his arms and sticking his arse out! : )
Let's get it on and make it a perfect 10 - honesty, passion and commitment, Jem

PSC / Baja, Mexico goes off - autumn demos |
| |
A very good day to you all and I hope you have enjoyed some water time in the time since my last newsletter. I am just back from my inaugural clinic to Punta San Carlos / Baja, Mexico courtesy of Solosports and then my usual September Rhodes mission. I must apologise for this pic heavy long newsletter but I think you will agree that it is worth it and that both my clients and the photographers: Clark Merrit (Solosports) and Gary Lawton (client ) have surpassed themselves.
As you can gather PSC went off, best ever, oh my god, and many other superlatives that perhaps would be less PC. We had great wind and an amazing swell, my crew of 10 from all around the world truly went hard at it hard and these are their best pics that I have found, SO FAR! The interesting fact is that of the 10, 8 of them were BUILT IN RHODES, and so if you have the fundamentals right then your wavesailing will rip - plane early, sail fast, fly upwind, look where you go, get low and keep the boom away - it's all there. Thanks to all of my Baja beauties for a great week / 2 weeks and purely for giving it their best and attacking the lip with passion. And the surfing and SUping was also amazing!!
Just a heads up for you that for BIG SALTY WEATHER each beach on the watchlist can have TEXT alerts set and based on custom wind and wave conditions or the Big Salty wind rating so you know when it is going off and can ahem, excuse yourself from .... and hit the water.
I am off to Ireland next week for my clinic in Brandon Bay. Then throughout the autumn I take in Mauritius and then Jeri, Brazil in December, these are all sold out, as is Moulay, Morocco through Oceansource next April 2010. So please start to consider where you are coming next year, if you WANT TO IMPROVE and have an awesome holiday.
So its also that time of year where we have the 2010 RRDS in stock, like the FSW and Fireride (check the movies out). Therefore, I will be showing them off at 2xs / West Wittering on the next windy day from Fri. Oct. 16 to Sun Oct. 18. It is then off to West Country Watersports for a shop demo on Fri. Oct 23 en route to the student windsurfing demo at Roadford reservoir on 24/25 Oct. My ground breaking technique DVD WINNER TO WAVESAILOR will of course be on sale throughout and you may also need to get up to speed by buying BEGINNER TO WINNER for those all important fundamentals. Thanks to USPmedia.TV for continuing to sponsor my streaming and watch out for all sorts of funky phone movies / downloads from them soon
If you would like to check out some nice movies then please look at Skyeboys, Clive 'El Toro - loopmeister' Bodens and our new hot shot Adam Sims , and enjoy. I will report on the looping antics on the Rhodes clinic next time, you can check out some feedback here and on my other boost in Rhodes plus their is a huge thread on PSC, Baja on the Boards forum.
Bookings will be taken on Rhodes from October and for Egypt we are just ironing out a few details and then we can book you up from Mid October.
Let's get it on - honesty, passion and communication, Jem
PS - KEEP PAGING DOWN TO ENJOY ALL THE PICS OF BOTH MY CLIENTS AND I HAVING IT IN PSC / BAJA : )

Phew, I am just getting over all the windy action both in El Tur and back in the UK after my recent return. My advanced crew and I had a great clinic out in El Tur courtesy of Oceansource.net and their great team. We spent our time in the bay, on mosque beach, at the point and down at Habibi wave beach which very unusually was a tad unreliable. Still everyone went at it hard and did not lack for commitment or enthusiasm. Many targets were reached and not least the huge amount of loops going down and some mighty relieved trigger pullers. Well done to the 4 Andys, Luke, Maureen, John, Rob, Mark and Geraint. I will be back there next spring and possibly in July as well.
On my return we were all blessed with stacks of wind all over the UK and boy did some people look like they need it : - ) I was loving hitting top speed on my New X fire slalom machine, getting in some freestyle and scoring a great jump and loop course down at Witts last Friday. The crew worked their jumps into a frenzy and even pulled a few triggers I will do more in future so watch this space. Next up there is the Ints & Improvers boost on May 21/22.
If you are heading out for ocean realignment please check the forecast with my NEW website sponsors 'Big Salty Weather.' They have an amazing site with beach reports and info, awesome up to the minute wind and swell forecasting and a fantastic photo gallery, soon to feature some pics from Ireland no doubt.
The start of the UKWA wave events has just taken place on May 7 - 10 in Brandon Bay, Ireland which went off and you can see pics on BOARDSEEKER ONLINE MAG, well done to 2nd placed RRD legend John Skye. This should get you all excited and pensive about joining me at the University of Wavesailing in Brandon Bay on my wave clinic there in October.
I am off to 'Rhossy, North Wales' on May 15 -17 to support the event, where I will be on hand with demo gear and tips for all. These comps are for everyone amateur and pro alike and we all have to start somewhere so get involved. Their is a wave and slalom contest and I will have the NEW RRD X Fire 112 with me. These super quick and easy slalom boards just did very well at the recent Austria Pwa race event so they have fine pedigree.
On route 'up North like' I will be stopping for an improvers / intermediates coaching course at Chase Water, Cannock in association with Boardwise so please call to book some of the last places - 01543 505084.
I would like to remind you about the new tab on my site which gives you a direct link to my movies and trailers so hit that 'Videos' button and let the high res movies, courtesy of USPmedia wet your appetite. And Lastly, I will be letting people know where I am sailing when in the UK on my twitter and facebook profiles.
focus, believe and enjoy this wind, Jem |

Well the sun is out and the forecasts have been teasing us with some wind, but it has not really stepped up with the goods so let's hope we all get a good dose of Mr. Crosshore soon. In the meantime please get out and do some light wind homework or go surf, SUP and gym.
I am very happy to draw attention to the new tab on my site which gives you a direct link to my movies and trailers so hit that 'Videos' button and let the high res movies, courtesy of USPmedia wet your appetite. Thanks to Ed @ Oceansource for this and for all his support throughout the years. Now, it is time to hand the reigns over to my new website sponsors 'Big Salty Weather.' They have an amazing site with beach reports and info, awesome up to the minute wind and swell forecasting and a fantastic photo gallery.
I have been trying to grab as much water / wind time as possible and so have enjoyed some great sessions on my new 7.0 Ezzy Free(ride) 3 and the 120 RRD fsw. It was great to be back to my roots and whip out some loops and waveriding on this somewhat larger kit as I used to when I was testing the bigger kit with Boards mag. Thanks to Gregg @ Oceansource for the pics which were taken in the lagoon at West Wittering.
The waves we get on the south coast are very suitable for SUPing on so I have been out on my new RRD stand up 11' and really enjoying that. I am looking forward to putting a rig on it for some light wind waveriding and classic freestyling when conditions permit. Once again I will extol the virtues of the great fun, cardio, core stability and all-round waterperson experience that SUPing gives you, so please demo or hire one for yourself soon. My RRD Stand up paddle board will be on demo at West Wittering in June and in Andy Biggs for late August / Sept.
I recently gave an interview to Phill on his website so if you want to check that out and his excellent then please click here. Whilst we are on website links please help the guys out at West Kirby by considering their petition against development and their is more info on iwindsurf
Next up we have the start of the UKWA wave events which will be on May 7 - 10 in Brandon Bay, Ireland and then 'Rhossy, North Wales' on May 15 -17, where I will be on hand with demo gear and tips for all. These comps are for everyone amateur and pro alike and we all have to start somewhere so get involved.
Great news for Ireland is that the Swansea / Cork ferry is back on, seems like a great idea to get over there in the spring and autumn then, and maybe on my clinic, but I would say that.
The national windsurfing week has risen again like a phoenix from the flames and their is lots more info here. We all got into our great sport from a friend, relation or partner getting us out on the water, so let's pay it back and get more people out there feeling the joy our amazing sport.
Lastly, a huge well done to a young man, Connor Bainbridge, that I mentor and coach for coming 3rd at the recent big RSX meet. He has come far and is a name to watch for the future and also rips it up in waves and freestyle. Off to El Tur for me now for my advanced boost there. I will update you on how that went in my next missive.
focus, believe and enjoy, Jem

Spring is in the air and with the clocks going forward we can all now enjoy a bit more outside action and hopefully of a water sports nature. There is even some wind kicking about this weekend and next week and maybe even for the Easter weekend, fingers crossed.
I am just back from some adventures on my El Tur Intermediate boost where we were blessed with 5 days out of 7 of wind, some sweet wave beach days and some stonking small sail action on the last few days. A huge well done and a massive thank you to my EU posse of Greeks, Dutch, British and a Belgian. Keep ripping Thanassis, George, Kostas, Fotis, Christos, Robert, Marian, Paul, Claire, Gary, Gavin and Herman.
The crew were all going faster, planing earlier, getting their first gybes or perfecting them and were an absolute joy to coach and their was plenty of humour / abuse on hand as well. Danielle and Phil and the new team out there run a great ship and Gregg, the owner, was also on hand with the camera for the great pics you can see. I managed to squeeze a session in on the wave beach on my day off with a 5.2 and waist to head high waves and enjoyed perhaps one of the most savage crashes I have had in a while. Top tip – try not to get flattened whilst mid air in a shuvit and front to sail, it will get hairy and fast!
The Greeks definitely enjoyed the whole week and were most likely their first countrymen to sail Habibi ‘wave’ beach and tried in vane to post a Greek flag. I will be back there later in April for my advanced boost and of course in 2010, when I may also release a July date to add to the March/ April ones. We have a thread and some more pics on this on the Boards forum.
It seems I have now fully embraced the blogosphere in all its glory with some posts on the RRD blog, my regular blog on the Ezzy site and now I have even added ‘Twitter’ if you want to see what is happening more often. I will update my ‘Wannabe a Wavesailor’ back articles on the Ezzy blog soon.
My travels this year will take me to Punta San Carlos, Baja, Mexico in August and I hope some of you enjoyed the article in this April boards mag and you can check out another view in the Boardseeker online Mag travel feature as part of the very useful travel section.
I am also looking forward to getting out this year on my new RRD X fire 112 slalom board. This will be a refreshing change on those medium wind days as I take a break from all the freestyle stunts and crashing that I enjoy. The board has had a great test in German “Surf” mag and will also be tested soon in Windsurf Mag UK. Boardseeker have just done a feature on it in as well. The X fire will be getting powered along by my new Ezzy Freeride Mk 3’s, in 7.0 and 8.5, which take all the positive performance and materials from the Panther and put them into a joy freeride sail – smoking!
My UK coaching in May is selling out with the rollover ‘jump and loop’ clinic on May 8, 9 or 10 FULL and the ‘Ultimate Fundamentals Boost’ for the intermediates on May 21/22 only having a couple of places left. The venue is the very versatile West Wittering and bookings are through X train. I will also be lining up some dates for Chase water through Boardwise as well.
‘WINNER TO WAVESAILOR’ is frantically being worked on all across the globe from England, Denmark and Maui and we expect a spring / early May release. Sorry for the delay but it will be worth it, keep your eyes peeled for a trailer soon.
Enjoy,
Jem

So then what is happening in the world of jemhall.com? Well, I am just back from Cape Town, which was pure deep joy for many reasons but the best one is that I am now engaged to the lovely Sophie Billyard. I got down on one knee in my wetsuit after we had enjoyed a lovely sunset sail together at Big bay and just popped the question and to my surprise she said yes. The proposal just felt right and I also wanted to do it after my near death skydive experience the day before. My first chute failed and we span like crazy but my tandem skydive dude threw out the 2nd one so it was eventually happy days, an experience I will not forget!! This made me feel quite humble and reflective.
The sailing in Cape Town was all good not a huge amount of days but it was great to get out and give the RRD Twin fins a good thrashing and to have them full speed in sweet down the line conditions. This trip also saw me taking in lots of tourism with Sophie including wine testing … darling, a trip to Robben Island where Mandela was held captive, going up Table mountain and many other beautiful places. Some of the pics here are from Sophie and of course the legendary Liz from cape sessions.
I am just about to release some dates for UK coaching in May including, a rollover ‘jump and loop’ clinic on May 8, 9 or 10 and an ‘Ultimate Fundamentals Boost’ for the intermediates on May 21/22. The venue is the very versatile West Wittering and bookings are through X - train on 01243 513077 or 512552. I will also be lining up some dates for Chase water through Boardwise as well.
We are now in the final throes of work on our upcoming wave technique movie – ‘WINNER TO WAVESAILOR.’ I have been ensuring all the chapters are ripping and will provide you with the toppest of tips from first jump to first double forward, first rides to wave 360s. Watch this space and get ready to buy it in the spring.
So it is now off to El Tur for my first coaching week of the year and then back out there at the end of April as well. I am looking forward to meeting the new team, seeing all the new toys and racking up some great Egyptian sailing action whilst getting both of my crews fully ripping.
For now it has been great to finally get out on the water here on the South coast and use my new RRD ‘stand up 11’ SUP and get some sailing in as well. The water is warming up, no more gloves and there is some wind kicking around. Sunday at West Witterings was like a May bank holiday with lots of smiling and tired faces. Bring on the spring and more wind for us all please.
Thanks to all of you who have booked up and I look forward to coaching you and do hope I see the rest of you on the water or on a clinic very soon.
PS - SUPing is so much fun, quiet, warm and great fun in easy waves. If you get a chance try it, hire a board, take some lessons but just get out in that ocean!!
Enjoy,
Jem

After the joy of Jeri it was back home in anticipation of some good old south westerlies back on my home turf of the sarf coast. Much to all our chagrin these did not materialise and the water plummeted in temperature. I got out a few times with one memorable day at Pagham but boy was it cold. In these temps you need great boots, a warm wetsuit, a hood and the secret weapon is palmless mitts. My mates who were trying to sail without these were really struggling; with them we were all flying and loving being out on the water.
I know I still have the love for sailing when I was seriously upset by missing one very good weekend and having my mates gloating at me, ‘you should have the seen the waves’ etc etc. Still it was for a good cause, I was on 12-hour shifts working on our upcoming wave technique movie – ‘WINNER TO WAVESAILOR.’ I have been writing the script and ensuring all the chapters are ripping and provide you with the toppest of tips from first jump to first double forward, first rides to wave 360s. Watch this space and get ready to buy it in the spring.
This year I have a new addition to my ‘performance boost tour. ’ On August 21 I will be running my Punta San Carlos / Solosports wave camp in Baja, Mexico. My motley crue and I went and checked it out last year and what joy we experienced. Check out the pix in the gallery and the movie page, streamed courtesy of USPmedia.tv
It is a week long camp with travel either side of it. The adventure starts once you board the 4-seater planes, which take us on the 2-hour flight from San Diego to Punta San Carlos. On arrival you land 5 metres from the centre and can roll straight on the water to go wavesailing or surfing – amazing!!
This is a ‘down the line’ wave sailing camp with steady side off winds and long peeling waves. The waves are easy to pick up and you can really concentrate on improve your wave riding from developing more speed and better turns to getting in some aerials and gu screws. There is also a sweet peak out the back for skying some big jumps off. Also on offer is the option of surfing or SUPing in the ams and some fantastic mountain biking.
Punta San Carlos has been the venue some world-class wave comps and our hosts Solosports will look after us in style. I am so excited about getting back out there and really want you to enjoy this amazing experience with me. But, you know this bit is coming, please book early to avoid disappointment as I only have a few places left and with plenty of interest. Please get in touch with me for your booking or any further questions.
Next month I am off to Cape Town to capture some pics for my ‘Wannabe a Wavesailor’ technique series in Boards and some video footage for my streaming movie tips in Boardseeker online mag, which is now FREE.
2009; New year, new life. What will you do to move forward in these difficult times? Seek a strategy and take action but whatever you do live life with passion.
PS As a lot of my clinics are close to selling out and due to popular demand I will be releasing a new date in the summer. This is to give those of you who have thus far missed out on the opportunity to have a great holiday and give your sailing a definite performance boost. Watch this space : - )
Thanks to all of you who have booked up in the past and this year, your commitment and belief in me is always very much appreciated.
Enjoy,
Jem

I am just back from the gloriously warmer climes of Jeri, Brazil, where I was out there getting some pix for my “Wannabe a Wavesailor” technique series in Boards mag, and for my first 'Jeri Joy' clinic. It was great to be back in my apartment from where I could work and showcase the day’s video feedback, alongside a few cold ones of course. John ‘Coxy’ Cox held a barbie for my crew and informed them of his soon to be finished project at ‘Serrote Breezes.’
We had planing wind every day bar one but it was lighter than usual, though 5.8 to 5.0 weather was not be sniffed at. Jeri gives you heaps of different conditions from its tidal range and choice of beaches to go off at. The atmosphere is amazing and the food is cheap, plentiful and very tasty, add to all of this waves, sun and warmth and you get the picture. In addition the staff at Club Dos Ventos and Pousada Hibiscos are so helpful and friendly and make you feel right at home. You can therefore see why it was so popular with the crew.
Thanks and well done to the crew of Jules, Ben, Adam, Ruth, Anna, Clive, Nigel, Candace, Danny and Janne, who were working on riding, jumps, gybes, tacks and loops and we even had a new move invented called the ‘suicide cheese.’ This is where you sheet in hard before taking off, throw the mast forward and to leeward and then crash spectacularly but try to convince one and all it was really a forward – hmmm .. Sheet out and pop I say, then get the rig forwards and across and ……..
So what else is happening out there? Well Boardseeker mag is now free!! Yay, check out all the movies, news, gossip, humour and my technique articles and download their pod cast. I am doing a basic freestyle series right now in the mag which you may want to check out. We are also looking forward to some more of their tests – 85 fsws and 100 freestyles.
If it is tests you want then please check out the complementary tests on the RRD fsw 80 and TWIN 82 in the JAN / FEB issue of Boards. Maybe you have even lined up a subscription to it for an Xmas pressie??
Of course a lot of you have my movie ‘Beginner to Winner’ and are now eagerly anticipating the last in our trilogy of technique movies, ‘Winner to Wavesailor’ (working title). This is now in full steam and you can expect a release in spring ‘09. The free your mind production team are editing furiously and I am writing the last voice overs and will be recording these in Jan ’09. in addition I will be editing the live coaching chapters which were filmed in Brazil, and cover riding, jumping and 'Jem's loop tips'.
So it is defo winter out there and areas of your body are shrinking, and thinking I am not going in the water. But, if the water is above 7 and the air is around 9 – 12 degrees C it is not that bad, arm yourself with a good wetsuit and boots, a decent hood (that can come up and down) and some palmless wetsuit mitts and you are nice and toasty. Wrap up warm to rig and de – rig and invest in a neoprene-rigging jacket AKA windsurfers flasher coat and you are good to go.
Please reflect on your year and think about your strategies to ‘make ’09 your time to shine’. Be honest, set targets, be self aware and self analyse and move your sailing forward. Anytime is a good time to get fit / ter so work on that as well please.
I would like to thank those of you who have joined me in the last 6 years, as it is you who has built the momentum from which I am now reaping the rewards. This has resulted in 2009 being the earliest and fastest booking year I have ever had! Bring it on and I look forward to getting YOU ripping.
Have a very Merry Xmas and an awesome New Year, Jem

At the end of our glorious autumn my Mauritius clinic beckoned and so after a great weekend down in deepest Devon with the SWA (student windsurfing association) I was off to the Indian resort hotel in Le Morne, Mauritius for my busiest clinic there so far.
What an awesome week not only were the crew super positive, and well up for learning anything and everything, but we were also blessed with 7 / 7 windy / wavey days and then a bit of a light wind ending. The clinic saw the return of some familiar faces and my first 2 American clients plus a Dutchie. The moves of the moment were gybes, jumps, tacks, forwards, wave riding and vuclans. Alongside this copy are some pics of the crew that I screengrabbed off of the video footage.
A big well done to all the posse, John, Maureen, Marilyn, Lawrence, Paul, Nick, Steve, Fionn, Sonia Pavelin (ukwa / pwa competitor), Andy, Roberto, James and Adam. Some serious breakthroughs were made for one and all not least the action of getting the rig forwards and across in the loop. In terms of improvement and attitude it had one of the best clinics ever!
My good mate and sometime co-coach James Cox has a new photo upload section on his awesome weather website BIG SALTY. So please get on there and upload your pics and check out the ones up there already – looking very nice. The site also has lots of great info on beaches and forecasts for your next windsurfing UK ventures.
If you have not had the chance yet please take the time to check out some of the movies I have on the site on my new VIDEO PAGE. There are movies about destinations and teasers for the movies that we have in the ‘feed your soul’ trilogy. Including of course the great ‘Beginner to winner,’ which will make many people very happy this Xmas. Contact me or your nearest well stocked windsurfing retailer to buy one.
The wave movie is being worked on as we speak, I have written a lot of the script, we have bucket loads of footage and the editing is taking place now. Expect more news on this in the New Year and a very possible release for spring ’09. It will be the definitive wavesailing instructional movie and very comprehensive in the manner of BTW and of course their is a trailer on my video page : - )
I have enjoyed getting out in the recent wind though a tad cold on my big baldhead and it is good to see a lot of people out there enjoying it. I could not believe how busy Hayling Island was the other weekend over 2 cold and windy days.
If you are wanting a bit of live Jem coaching inspiration then please check out my freeride and basic freestyle technique series movies on Boardseeker online mag with new ones appearing every week or 2 until Jan '09. These were filmed out in Cape Town last year.
It will be off to Jericoacoara, Brazil on Nov. 28th for a weeks photo shot for my ‘Wannabe a wavesailor’ technique series(download past ones from my blog) in Boards mag and then I go into coach mode on Dec. 5th - 14th for my inaugural clinic there. Wind, waves. warmth, sun, improvement and good times are guaranteed.
Lastly, thanks to Gregor Mozetič for the other images from Rhodes last June. Flat water, wind, waves, warmth, sun and super friendly people in the hotel and the centre plus of course the worlds leading windsurf coach - you know it makes sense. The loop clinic is exactly as it says on the can and for loopers only and I will get you pulling that trigger, either for the first time or improving your technique. See you there in '09.
Enjoy, Jem

Brandon Bay goes off! |

BREAKING NEWS: EL TUR in association with Oceansource.net – March 22- 29 – SOLD OUT. APRIL 26 – MAY 3 – SOLD OUT. PRASONISI, RHODES – June – all 3 weeks have limited space with very high interest – you snooze you lose : - ) Book now with Sportif Holidays on 0044 (0) 1273 844919, international bookings welcome.
A huge thanks and welcome goes out to my newest sponsor USPmedia.tv who specialize in high quality video streaming and integrated online marketing. They have provided the platform for us to view hi res and full screen movies on my gallery page just click on the VIDEO tab. The technique page will be getting a facelift soon too.
Lots to tell so thank you for taking the time to read this.
Ireland in the autumn you just can’t beat it. My clients and I have just got back from the emerald Isle and beautiful Brandon Bay. We were blessed with a huge mix of conditions over the fortnight and had wind and waves aplenty. There were tired bodies and rosy cheeks all round. We had side off port tack at Kilcummin, side shore port at Fermoyle, huge side off port at Stradbally and we also had some starboard tack joy at Corner of pleasure (shitties is not a name that does it justice!).
A big well done to all the crew and huge respect to Adrian Cox for cutting his lip open at 9am and then getting stitched up and back on it by 12pm on the big 3.5 Thursday – believe me there was plenty of blood. Thanks to Nick, Tim, Ali, Gerry, Gary, John, Richard, Ciao and Grazi to my first Italian client, Mario from week 1. Further thanks to the week 2 posse, Gavan, Roy, David, Martin, Andy R, Adrian 'Lips' Cox and danke to my first German client, Andreas. Sounds like a Eurovision presentation ....
It was also very refreshing to have everyone keen to learn to surf or even improve, as some windsurfers just don’t get this idea of being a water person so as to develop their wavesailing. The joy of Ireland is that you will get waves almost every day and so you have to surf or wavesail according to the conditions to take advantage of this opportunity.
The twin fins were going really well and I could not believe how they held their rail, went tight and kept speed no matter how powered up they were. The twin fin 82 coped amazingly with overpowered 3.5 and 4.0 so it was great to get to know the twins wind range even further, as well as with bigger sails. My clients all had the opportunity to try all my RRD toys and loved them. The fsw 110 was working well in the lighter winds and was both smooth and loose when equipped with a smaller fin, as was the fsw 95. I also got out on the twin fin 99 which was amazingly loose and easy to catch waves on the lighter wind days.
We can thank Steve Holt and Paul Hopcroft, who are based out there, for the pics so check em out for some pix when you are out in Brandon Bay. They do prints, sequences and all the like. More pics will be uploaded to Pauls site very soon.
Seems like the RRD twins are not holding John Skye back as he has just got 1st place in the waves in Tiree so yes these twins do jump and very well. John just got 5th in PWA Sylt and 14th overall for the year. Hats off to James Cox, Ezzy team rider, as well for his best comp to date, as he has just finished 4th in the double elimination up in Tiree. Updates on Boardseeker.com site and their forum. James comes with me on some of my Rhodes coaching clinics to lend a hand and Skyeboy will also be accompanying me on a clinic next year.
It is off to Mauritius at end of October for me for a clinic out there and just before that I went to the student windsurfing association event ‘Aussie Kiss 7’ down in deepest Devon.
December will see me in Jeri, Brazil for a photoshoot and for my first clinic there. John Cox's apartments, Serrote Breezes. are progressing well, check out the pix. I can't wait to get back into my pad out there as well, we have bookings from July till Jan '09.
Bring on the autumn wind and remember 7/11 draws closer so get those loops sorted please – needs and wants.
Enjoy, Jem

Luscious Loops in Rhodes |

RHODES - HALF TERM REPORT
A very good day to you all, as I write to you whilst being potentially stranded out in Prasonisi, Rhodes. The collapse of XL airways is obviously a shocker but Sportif holidays are all over it and will get us home somehow. I thought I would fill you in on the exploits occurring out here after 7 days of full on wind in a row and what is coming up for me.
There was a multicultural feel to the loop boost as I had 4 Greeks, my first Austrian, a Pole, an Irishmen and a Spanish Irishmen along with some good old brits. Quite a few were even on their 2nd clinic of the year. There is nothing more heart warming than to see them all line up and take their turn to sail out and pull that trigger for the video camera. It was all good clean fun with no injuries, except some healthy back bruising, and a lot of the crew getting close with some almost sailing away. The most important thing is that their journey has started and they now know how, when, where and why to loop and we can perhaps follow some of their exploits on the loop club thread.
There was lots of excellent improvement in all areas including tacking, gybing, popping, wymaroos, duck gybes, heli tacks. The crew who were not up for the looping also know what to do to move closer to it in the future and that is popping the board, tail grab jumps and light wind wymaroos. A big thank you and well done to Sokratis, Fotis, Kostas, Thanassis, Jurgen, Fionn, Carlos, Pistol Pete, Joe, Caroline, Andy, Martin, Piotr and of course Sophie.
Whilst being out here I have had plenty of time to get to grips with the RRD Twin Tip 110 ‘09 which is both an awesome freestyle board and an excellent coaching board. It is faster, with more pop and is super slidey for those aerial moves, yet still planes early, flies upwind and carves sweetly. The loop week was too windy for the 120 FSW ltd edition so a report on this will follow later but it is definitely very pretty graphics – ah : - )
Talking of reports the RRD Twin Fin 82 has just received an excellent test in Boardseeker online magazine so please check it out. You will see that it is now time to believe the hype. The RRD twin is super loose, easy to sail and you can use a bigger board yet have the turning of a way smaller one – the virtues of twin fins are extolled more fully in the test.
So I am now on week 2 of Rhodes coaching with the gybing and tacking being thoroughly presented and I have a few eager trigger pullers as well. Then I have 2 weeks in Ireland from Sept. 27th and their ARE A FEW PLACES LEFT ON WEEK 2 FROM OCT 4 – 11, SO COME AND JOIN ME AND LETS TAKE YOU FROM WINNER TO WAVESAILOR.
Oh yes, I am going to say it, next year is filling up quick. My clients are finishing the clinic, going home and then booking up for the same week next year so if you would like in for ’09, book early, like now! Sportif is ready to take your booking so make ’09 your time to improve.
Yasu,
Jem

We love UK summers and Baja, Mexico! |
| |
Welcome to the summer – get those G-strings out and all that freeride gear. OOPs wrong newsletter – anyway it is time to seriously think about getting a 3.5 and realising that autumn is here. Last week I was doing a very good impression of a rag doll at West Wittering on Wednesday and enjoying peoples comments that they do not need a 3.5 cos 4.0 is fine - after this they took off and were never seen again. : - ) If you have a small board and like to be in control then a 3.5 and a small mast will see you enjoying some great times – just don’t rig it too flat or loose!
The 3.5 onshore action was a rude awakening after my awesome trip to Baja San Carlos with Solosports in early August. My team of Steve Carpenter, Clive Boden, John ‘Jeri’ Cox, Nick Coleman, Rob Willings and James Yule absolutely loved it. Surfing and SUPing (stand up paddle boarding) in the am, mountain biking whenever and amazing down the line frontside action every day. I will for sure be doing a clinic there in ’09 and please be ready for invitations on 22/08/09 TBC. This will be covered more in depth in a Boards mag travel feature and our very own video travel diary. There is a bit more chat on the Boards forum. Thanks to Clark Merrit, resident photographer, and to El Toro for pictures and video.
I had the great pleasure of getting to know my ’09 Ezzy wave Panthers and RRD Twin fin 90 out there. The panthers are feeling a lot lighter and more manoeuvrable with the shorter booms and new materials and they still have the mind-blowing wind range they are renowned for. The future of wave riding development is defo the twin fin, loose, easy to sail and a great wind range, getting sweet turns back and front side in all wind directions has never been so easy. I will be getting my 82 back from skyeboy soon so I ll tell more then but there is some more info here. The 82 is on test with Boardseeker mag and the results will be available shortly.
It seems that demand for my coaching is high as not only is ’09 El Tur and Rhodes starting to sell but I have now opened a 2nd wave week in Ireland on Oct 4 – 11, so please contact Jeremy at Jamie Knox to reserve your place. jamieknox@eircom.net , 00353 667 139411.
Great news for you and my sponsors ‘Grasshopper Porridge’ as we can now purchase there fine instant porridge from Waitrose supermarket this Sept. onwards – yummy. Check out the coconut and date flavour and treat yourself to some chocolate ones as well. : - )
FYM productions and I are currently working very hard on the wave technique movie and this will be out in the autumn / winter and yes it will rock and be of the usual comprehensive and uber informative style of Beginner to Winner.
All the new Ezzys and RRDs will now be in so please pop on down to your local dealer and check them out.
See you on the water. I look forward to catching up with some of you In Rhodes and Ireland and later on in Mauritius / Brazil which are now both full.
Enjoy,
Jem

Rhodes goes off and UK summer action |
| |
A very belated hello to you all seems like ages since I have last contacted you but this is in reflection of my impression of a blue arsed fly at present and also because my brain is confused as to what season we are in. Déjà vu indeed as it seems like only yesterday or even last July I was cold in a 4/3 wetsuit and enjoying summer? Strong winds and so once again Mr Jetstream and Mrs Wind have come up with the goods again – windy, wet and wavey – we love it!
The weekend saw me take in 3 beaches on Sunday and 2 on Monday. Sunday saw good sessions at Hayling, Pagham and West Wittering and great to bump into so many of you at these spots. Monday saw me to go James BIG SALTY Cox’s hangout of Southbourne and then great joy in the arvo at West Witts.
I am just back from a very windy Rhodes where too many clients to mention here joined me for some Mediterranean mayhem and moved forward in stance, gybes, spocks, forwards and all sorts. The international theme continues with my first Singaporean and French clients, it was also a family affair with sons and dads of all ages joining me. My main man, and new Seasprite Sports team rider, Clive Boden knocked up a movie as well so pls check it out here and you can read a review of the NEW Ezzy Freewave sail by fellow new team rider Steve Carpenter here. Lots of my clients got to try it and it proved very popular indeed.
Rhodes continues to improve – the kit, atmosphere, staff, hotel but most of all the wind – even when the forecast is bad we still get usable wind, this is the secret of a great venue!
As well as me getting in touch with you through newsletters and my news page I will also be posting on the Ezzy international Blog so please check out my musings on there but do not expect daily exploits as to how much tuna I have eaten and how long I have lasted in the plank position. I will also be posting my old ‘wannabe a wavesailor’ articles from BOARDS mag UK on here as well so you can download em.
This summer I will be working hard on the wave movie and of course persuading even more people about the deep carving joy of RRD and the fact that ‘everything is easy with an Ezzy.’ Plus I hope to continue to enjoy some more windy action and get out on my new RRD wave twin 90 – amazing riding potential.
Hot off the press is the news that the RRD family has grown and is currently doing battle in Pozo, Gran Canaria. Our top riders Kevin Mevissen (Holland) and Spanish Ripper Alex Mussolini have been joined by Slalom and Speed legend Finian Maynard and UK/ International wave ripper John ‘skyeboy’ Skye. To say I am happy is an understatement – please check out the action the PWA SITE.
End of the month will see the great man David Ezzy join us in the UK to launch his new wave sail – the wave panther and then I will be off to Baja San Carlos, Mexico to check out the amazing wave conditions on offer from the SOLO SPORTS CREW. I will be joined by a few of my client posse to keep me in check and give me feedback on the place – excited is not the word, this place goes off!!
The last place or 2 in Mauritius and Brazil will sell this week and then I am booking 2009. Yes that is right, people are ready to book now for El Tur and Rhodes so Sportif and I will meet there needs. So this is the bit where I say book up early – the majority of Rhodes clients in 07 and 08 said ‘I am coming back’ so spaces will be in short supply for next year on this and all clinics. I thank all of you for putting me in this position as it is you who book and recommend me – you are all awesome. Right enough of that – get fit, go sailing a lot and do your light wind homework please. Phew!
Focus, believe and enjoy.
Jem

'09 EZZYS on show at West Wittering this Sun June 1st |
| |
Even though we had a quick flirt of south west wind yesterday it's still been all about the nor easterlies so it was off to Norfolk last bank hol weekend. I even had my hair done for this occassion. Not really, but my good lady, Sophie, got in some great bump n jump sailing at Hunstanton whilst I scored 3 days of starboard tack sideshore wavesailing at Old Hunstanton. Their is a top crew of people up there and some very fun conditions and it was great to see and sail at a new venue.
We know it’s a bit last minute but Graham Ezzy is stopping at West Wittering Windsurf Club en route from Maui to the PWA events in the Canaries.
It is literally a flying visit, but both he and I will be at West Wittering Beach on Sunday from Midday onwards showing off the brand new 2009 Ezzy Panther and Free Wave sails and giving a rigging demonstration.
For anyone that is interested in meeting a top up-and-coming wave-sailor and seeing the best way to rig the latest kit, this is an opportunity not to be missed!
For more info on Graham’s visit, please call West Wittering Windsurf Club on 01243 513 077
Due to a cancellation we now have a twin room and therefore 2 places available in Rhodes on June 25 for the intermediate / advanced performance boost but please be quick as these will go! If you would like to see a fun movie of the flat water sailing there then check this out. It was made in June last year by Richard Dudley, nice shorts hey!
This year has been the fastest selling and earliest to book up ever so a big thanks to all of you. I really appreciate all your promotion and word of mouth referals and, of course, the fact that a large amount of you re-book!
See some of you in Rhodes.
Focus, Believe and Enjoy, Jem

Summer is here? |
| |
Good Morning to you,
Hope you are enjoying our mini summer yet wishing secretly, like I am, for the windy SW conditions we had last July. So we are stuck in this Nor East / East flow but there is still great sailing on offer and the East Coast will be going off. There are also many spots that work on the south coast, and I'm sure elsewhere, so seek them out and take the tide into account. For examples my home turf of Southsea is side shore in Nor East and is easy bump n jump at low tide.
Rhodes beckons and all the clinics there are now full. All but one as there has been a last minute cancellation and so there is a space in a male twin share for June 25, you are under starters orders as it is first come first served, phone Sportif now on 01273 844919.
If you wish to join me later in the year then please consider my wavesailing week in Ireland in Sept. or Marvellous Mauritius for intermediates/advanced, perfect for non-sailing partners too, on Oct. 31 or lastly, Jeri, Brazil is already for booking up for the advanced rippers.
My apartment out in Jeri is booking up quick so get in touch and we’ll see how we can accommodate you, check out the Brazil section of the gallery and the brief movie on you tube. Of course when my site receives all the movies on high resolution streaming, courtesy of USPmedia.TV, you will be able to see it right here.
It was National Windsurf week from May 3 – 11, with lots of events, free lessons and a large amount of love for our great sport going on. We had a great weekend at the RRD / EZZY demo courtesy of 2XS and West Wittering Windsurf Club on Sat 3rd and Sun 4th May where lots of beginners were brought down by friends, partners, uncles etc and got their free lessons. I was also on hand to give out tips.
My gills were put under much duress as I headed off to coach at Chase water in Staffordshire on the first of my ‘spread the RRD love’ coaching clinics there. The crew at Boardwise got a great crew together and provided me with sun and wind – brilliant! I will be back there in July and August. You can also catch me and the joy RRD / Ezzy toys at the H20 demo in Poole on July 5/6th.
I am now in the throughs of writing the wave movie, which is the last in the ‘Feed your Soul’ trilogy of much ‘Beginner to Winner’ fame. So it’s head down in the office and then off to editing and voice recording suites (prison cells) in Denmark. So if you want to be a wavesailor then buy it in the autumn.
Use your spare time wisely and remember good windsurfers are built in light winds and are also fit.
Focus, believe and enjoy.

Spring wind and warmth |
| |
Spring is the air and I like it. Having previously experienced the cold temps of March a warm day now feels like summer and the shedding of rubber feels mighty fine, steady on now, we are talking boots and hoods! We have had some good wind and I have seen lots of happy faces on the water and the best thing about European wind is that you are just so damn happy to get it when you do.
My prodigal return to a massively revamped El Tur was a couple of weeks back. The improvements are courtesy of new owners Ed Texier and Gregg Dunnett (ex Boards) from Oceansource.net and the new uber efficient, friendly and ripping boss, Helen. The place always had great wind and a huge variety of water states and is one of the ‘ultimate windsurfing playgrounds.’ Now you can add refurbed rooms, better food, a beach bar, legend RRD and Ezzy kit and a fantastic atmosphere.
The crew and I were blessed with 5 days out of 7 wind and we also got blown around on 4.2 – 4.7s. The wave beach was going off and it was difficult to wipe the smile off of Mark F and Roy M’s faces. I welcomed some Greeks to an Egypt clinic for the first time, thanks George and Kostas and all the crew worked hard and seriously improved, but then they always do with all my passion and fine coaching : -) Well done and thanks to the rest of the UK crew David, Neil (old skool), Neil (flamer), Neil (new skool), Bianca, Rob and Steve.
Rhodes is now full, so there has indeed been some snoozing by some people who wanted to book this. Please consider wavesailing week in Ireland in Sept. or Marvellous Mauritius for intermediates/advanced, perfect for non-sailing partners, on Oct. 31. Lastly, Brazil is now priced and ready for booking for the advanced rippers. My apartment out in Jeri is booking up quick so get in touch and we’ll see how we can accommodate you.
My new sponsors Usp media have provided me with high quality video streaming for the Cape Verde movie and all my trailers and next lot of movies will be going up soon so watch the site and check out the full page hi res movie. You will need to shut down all other programs running to allow the player to work it's magic and enjoy the hi-res joy. Please give me some feedback on this.
It is National Windsurf week from May 3 – 11, lots of events, free lessons and a large amount of love for our great sport is going down so please get involved. I will be at the RRD / EZZY / 2xs demo at West Wittering this Sat 3rd and Sun 4th May and there will also be free coaching from moi on Sat 3rd and Sat 10th from 12 – 2pm. I am also off to coach at on Thurs May 8th at Chase water in association with Boardwise.
To kick off NWW we had the movie premier of the ‘Windsurfing movie’ at Prince Charles cinema in the ‘west end’ on Tuesday and it was great to see so many people turn up. Was a tad weird for me to be in London and see so many of my clients in suits but the movie went down well and the ensuing refreshments were enjoyed. A huge thank you to Nick F and Sean B for putting this together, lets continue the momentum.
My fellow team rider, James Cox, has put together a great new weather site called Big Salty which some of you are already enjoying. It has beach info, wind reports and accurate localised forecasts - please check it out and give James any feedback.
Get out on the water and seek that ocean realignment and please consider guaranteeing you’ll improve by joining me overseas somewhere. Thanks to those of you who have booked, past, present and future, this is my best year ever and this is all down to you!
Focus, believe and enjoy.

Showing of the Windsurfing Movie on 29/4 |
| |
A very cold spring hello to you all. I am just back from a very windy El Tur trip which I will tell all about in the next newsletter. Lets now focus on promoting our great sport. Back in the eighties it seemed as if every other car had a windsurfer strapped to the roof and every pond, lake and stretch of coastline was decorated with an array of brightly coloured triangular sails. Since then the sport has taken a lower profile, but all that is beginning to change. Modern design and manufacturing techniques have resulted in equipment that is far easier to learn on, and today’s participants are taking the sport in directions only dreamed of by the original pioneers. It's therefore not surprising that windsurfing is experiencing a worldwide renaissance.
To celebrate this, a group of UK enthusiasts have created National Windsurfing Week, which will run from 3-11 May and feature a host of activities taking place across the country, including many opportunities for the public to try windsurfing free of charge. Full details can be found at www.nationalwindsurfingweek.org
To get things off on the right note, there is going to be a special screening of the iconic film "The Windsurfing Movie" at The Prince Charles Cinema near Leicester Square in London, on the evening of Tuesday 29th April. This will be the first, and probably only, opportunity to see what many feel to be the best film ever made about windsurfing on a big screen.
Tickets for the showing are £10 each, and can be booked in advance by calling the box office on 0870 811 2559, or purchased on the door subject to availability. Please try and drag along some non-windsurfing friends to inspire them into getting into our great sport.
All profits will be donated to the RNLI. Doors open at 6.00pm with the film being shown at 6.45pm
Their is an RRD / EZZY demo that I will be attending on May 3/4 at West Wittering courtesy of 2XS / Seasprite where I will also be giving out free tips on the Saturday and the following Saturday May 11th. This is to spread some more of my coaching love. Please get involved in any events near to you on national windsurf week on May 3 - 11.
This year sees me commencing regular tuition dates at Boardwise in Cannock, kicking off with Thursday May 8, more details and bookings on 01543 505084. More dates will follow in July.
Rhodes is now full so it is only Mauritius on Oct. 31 and Jeri, Brazil on Dec. 5 that are now available to book through Sportif on + 44 (0)1273 844919. For the waveheads please consider Ireland on Sept. 27 and get in touch with me.
Bring on the warm winds and enjoy the spring, see you at the movies.

Spring is in the air |

It looks like you should be considering some ocean realignment this week with some nice easterlies coming in. Please check out Big Salty for where it will be going off.
Looking to the future and much warmer climes the prices for my Brazil, Jeri clinic are now available. Get your bookings in early to Sportif because you know what I am going to say next, it will sell out quick and 'if you snooze you lose'. There certainly seems to be some snoozing going on in some quarters as people who said 'I am definitely booking up Rhodes' have now missed out. June is sold out and September has very limited space on the looping week from Sept 3 - 10 but the week after is almost closed out.
Thanks to the great sponsors of my website, oceansource.net, the Cape Verde ‘07 movie up is now up on the gallery page. This will give some of you the idea what it is to go on a clinic and the conditions in both Santa Maria and Ponta Preta. Ed Texier worked hard on this and you can see more of his work on the Oceansource gallery, which shows you images and video of his and Gregg Dunnett’s centre out in El Tur, Egypt which is where I have just been for a week of windy coaching joy.
You may see some death defying loops over the next few months as SeaSprite Sports Team have declared the ‘Lords and Ladies Loop (LLL) challenge open which includes prizes for the highest loop captured on a pic. It is trigger-pulling time so get into it!
I am amassing a nice little crew for my virgin voyage to Baja, Mexico for some 'down the line' pure joy. This spot will be on my clinic list next year and is suitable for all from wave novices to rippers and wll be hosted by Solosports.net. Please contact me if you fancy the mission this August, to say I am excited is a serious understatement!
Lastly, this May 3 – 11 is National Windsurf Week. This means we have to celebrate our great sport, teach friends, and attend events and all sorts. There are lots of ideas on the site and in the windsurfing mags at the mo. I hope we all get the chance to play some part in this.
Thanks again to those of you who have booked or have been in touch and I look forward to seeing or coaching you on a beach somewhere. Roll on the spring : - )
Enjoy, Jem

Magical Mauritius |
| |
I am just back from marvelous Mauritius where i was running a coaching clinic and then stayed on for a bit of holiday with Sophie, plus Benny and Katherine from Brandon Bay. The clinic was fab with a wide range of conditions and everyone stepping up and working hard. Aside from the windsurfing the island and hotel itself has so much on offer that when people got a break from sailing they went into holidaymaker mode which was great to see. I also saw lots of families enjoying their hols as well. A big thank you and congrats to Jeremy, Liz, Adrian, Sarah, Driss, Jeanette, Xav, Kate, Martin, Andy and James on all their endeavours.
The looping bug was also in evidence with 1/3 of the crew pulling the trigger so across all clinics this year and on many beaches i can say the tide has turned with many more people going for and completing loops, let's get to it! Now the journey towards looping starts with the basics done well so if you want these tuned then please join me on a clinic next year.
With winter drawing in and the darkness taking a stranglehold then please consider beating those winter blues with me in Cape Verde for advanced riders in Feb, or Safaga, Egypt for the intermediates in March. If you want to get some more ocean realignment then you might want to consider getting out on a stand up paddle board. Awesome fitness, great for your balance, brill for surfing and works your core muscles.
Brazil, my new appartment out in Jeri beckons, plus a photo and video shoot, from Dec 1st for a couple of weeks. I will be getting pix for the Wannabe a Wavesailor series and video for the upcoming Wave movie as the last in the 'Feed you Soul' trilogy and sequel to Beginner to Winner. Of course with xmas coming soon you may want to buy the most complete instructional movie to date, great as a present or as a gift to yourself - make it your or your friends/partners/families time to improve. Seasons greetings and thanks for taking the time to read this. I look forward to seeing you in '08 and thanks to all of you who joined me on a clinic this year. Jem

Luscious Le Morne - Mauritius rocked! |
| |
From what I hear its been a pretty good autumn and there are certainly some smiling faces around the south coast beaches I ve been to. What was most pleasing was seeing all sorts of sailors improving and generally going for it – I was most impressed with the Pagham posse and all there aerial antics with lots of them looping and trying loops. I have also seen this at Witts and this sailors are, without being cheeky, no spring chickens, so get out there and get on it – be it gibing, jumping, riding, freestyle or looping!
My last clinic took me to Mauritius and the fabulous resort of le Morne where my clients and I enjoyed one of the best clinics ever – awesome hotel, fantastic food, world-class sailing and such friendly people. It was a 10-day hol with 8 days opportunity for sailing; we scored 6 and a half with wind from 5.9 – 4.7 and all sorts of wave joy. The lagoon gives great bump n jump sailing, little reef gives you some jumping and riding action and Manawa is just pure clean riding joy. Thank you and well done to Kate, Henrietta, Mairead, Carl, Nigel, Marti and David – in all your blasting, gybing, riding, spocking and jumping exploits – ’07 will see a very high return rate so book early!
From the joy of the Indian Ocean to Roadford Lake in Devon it was off to the student windsurfing weekend – 300 plus students sailing, partying and mud sliding – all great fun and fantastic organisation with such a committed and diligent committee. The SWA and Team 15 are 2 reasons why windsurfing is moving forward in the UK – so well done them.
Yes, the movie is still being finished but it is very much the last touches and it will be out in mid November – great for an Xmas pressie to friends, partners, and children and to you! You will be suitably impressed.
Next month I will be announcing that I have hung up my testing hat with Boards mag and am now working with RRD boards and EZZY sails alongside Seasprite sports in promotion and brand development. More on this later.
2007 is looming and with the amount of bookings already being made it is going to be a busy year. There is a venue and a date that should suit everyone – and I m coaching all levels from improvers nailing beachstarts and harness work to carve gybes, all the way through to looping and wavesailing. So don’t just seize the day, seize a whole week and make a massive difference to your windsurfing enjoyment and performance!
